Publication shadow report on women's rights in the Netherlands
Today Dutch organisations presented a report on compliance to women's rights in the Netherlands in the years 2005-2008. The so-called shadow report is a critical commentary to the report of the Dutch government to the UN Comittee to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The shadow report "Women's Rights - some progress, many gaps" describes Dutch legislation and policies with respect to women's rights. The report criticises amongst others (lack of) measures against violence against women, discrimination of women on the labour market and insufficient available facts and figures on the position of women in the Netherlands.
The report has been published by the Dutch CEDAW Network (Netwerk VN-Vrouwenverdrag) of which Aim for human rights is secretariat. The report is widely supported: 54 Dutch organisations have signed the shadow report. The Dutch human rights ambassador, Mr. Arjan Hamburger received the first copy today.
In January 2010 the CEDAW Committee will review the Netherlands. Dutch organisations present their shadow report in Geneva.
