Oxford Journal publishes article on HeRWAI tool
The fall edition of the scientific journal Oxford Journal of Human Rights Practice contains an article on the HeRWAI tool of Aim for human rights.
HeRWAI (Health Rights of Women Assessment Instrument) supports human rights defenders when they research the health and access to health care of women in their country. They can use the resulting recommendations to lobby with their government for better compliance to the right to health for women.
Aim for human rights has developed this tool together with other organisations. In cooperation with partners, we train organisations accross the world to use HeRWAI. This has among others led to new legislation on the maternity leave for all women in Kenia. HeRWAI has also been used to stop new legislation that would have resulted in reduced access to pregnancy health care for undocumented women in the Netherlands.
The development and use of HeRWAI are described in the article "Human Rights Impact Assessment in Practice: The Case of the Health Rights of Women Assessment Instrument (HeRWAI)"
