Launch Human rights and business game

Yesterday evening in Zandvoort (the Netherlands) the international launch of the Human rights and business board game took place. This educational management game has been developed by Aim for human rights, in cooperation with Strategic Productivity (Pty) Ltd and with financial support from the ASN Bank Foundation. Guests from businesses and international NGOs were invited to play the new game.

Piet Sprengers of ASN Bank launches the game.

Players discovered that a discussion on human rights and companies need not be a serious business. While playing, they gained insight on the human rights dilemmas that businesses can encounter. One person summarised his experiences as follows: “What this game tries to show is that a social attitude does not need to stand in the way of sales, returns and profit. Short term decisions have an effect on a much longer period of time in terms of management and success.”

The game made clear that a responsible business strategy on human rights contributes to a company’s long term profitability. The evening’s victor won a game of her own to take home to Zimbabwe.

The Human rights and business game is not for sale. Under supervision of Aim for human rights or its partner organisations it will be played at companies, universities and NGOs in Europe and Africa. The most important objective is to raise awareness on issues surrounding.
