Human Rights Impact Assessment guide for businesses published in China

The Social Resources Institute (China), funded by SOMO and Oxfam Novib, has translated corporate social responsibility reports to Mandarin. They selected Aim for human rights' "Guide to Corporate Human Rights Impact Assessment tools" as one of the documents for their translation project.

Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIA) help companies to analyse whether their policy and practice are in line with human rights norms and principles. A tool, consisting of indicators and questions on human rights, is used for the assessment. The Human Rights Compliance Assessment is an example of such a tool. It helps companies with the (re-) formulation of codes of conduct and with the incorporation of principles of human rights law into its policies.

The “Guide to Corporate Human Rights Impact Assessment Tools” presents an overview of the existing HRIA tools for business. It supports business managers of (multinational) corporations and their stakeholders to select the tool(s) to assure the best HRIA process for the corporation.
The Social Resources Institute aims to promote HRIA tools in China as part of their corporate social responsibility programme. 400 copies of the guide will be distributed to Chinese organisations, mostly NGOs and institutes, and enterprises. The Social Resources Institute will also conduct a seminar to invite Chinese researchers to discuss the topic.
