Aim for human rights presents human rights impact assessment tools to UN

On February 1 and 2 Aim for human rights will introduce methods for human rights impact assessment to UN-representatives in Geneva. These tools, mostly manuals, help to link human rights standards to what happens in practice in a country. By using these, non-governmental organisations can more effectively lobby their governments for better policies or legislation, for example to prevent violence against women.

On February the 1st, employees of Aim for human rights will organise a presentation for the staff of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

On the 2nd of February, members of the committee that supervises the implementation of CEDAW (the Convention for the Elimination of all Discrimination against Women) will be informed on the results achieved with the use of HERWAI (Health Rights of Women Assessment Instrument). We will also discuss the development of DOVA (Domestic Violence Human Rights Assessment instrument) and the tool on human Rights & trafficking in persons: A step-by-step guide to assess the impact of anti-trafficking laws, policies and practices.

An important objective for Aim for human rights is for organisations, governments and companies to have knowledge of the influence of their activities on human rights, and to strive for positive effects. The use of human rights impact assessment tools can help to achieve this goal.
