Aim for Human Rights at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
Every year the Commission on the Status of Women, part of ECOSOC (the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations) holds a convention in New York to discuss gender equality and emancipation of women. This year Loeky Droessen and Marije Nederveen from Aim for Human Rights join the Dutch NGO delegation.
The convention is taking place from March 1 - 12 2010. Representatives of member states meet at the UN headquarters to discuss their progress, to identify problems and to decide on a policy to promote equality and emancipation worldwide.
The theme of this year’s conference is “CSW 54/Beijing+15”.
The Dutch government will be present, as well as civil society organisations and platforms on human rights and emancipation such as WO=MEN, E-Quality and Aim for Human Rights. They will lobby for a policy strengthening the position of women and will try to augment the influence of Dutch representatives. About 2000 non-governmental organisations from all over the world will be present at the conference.
During the event Loeky Droesen will present two workshops in the side events part of the CSW: one will feature HeRWAI; the Health Rights of Women Assessment Instrument and the other will be about the Aim for Human Rights’ DOVA project, a human rights tool for domestic violence. Organisations and experts from all over the world can get to know the tools and methods that we are currently developing in cooperation with partner organisations in order to eradicate domestic violence and guarantee the health rights of women.
