Second meeting on developing an instrument to stop domestic violence
From 15-19 June a second meeting will be held by Aim for human rights for the project to develop a human rights compliance instrument on domestic violence. The meeting will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal and is hosted by co-developing organisation WOREC.
Domestic violence is a problem that occurs in all cultures and countries. However, there is a great deal of variation from country to country, and from setting to setting. This highlights the fact that domestic violence is not inevitable and can be stopped. Aim for human rights and project participants of over 12 countries are committed to gap the bridge between what a country should do against domestic violence and what it does.
In this second meeting will be discussed in detail the draft version of an instrument that helps to analyse what a country is already doing to combat domestic violence and what measures should be taken. Secondly, the meeting will be used to outline the plans of testing the instrument in the participants’ own countries. Aim for human rights decided to use their presence in Nepal to learn about the local context by visiting local organisations and by holding public events to highlight the need to stop domestic violence.
The outcome of this project will be the creation of an instrument that will help non-governmental organisations worldwide to hold their government accountable for gaps in their laws and policies to combat domestic violence.
